Billion Person Meditation
The One Billion Person Meditation was described in a press release
intended to inspire as many people as possible to meditate on peace in
the world. The event was set for 6:00 PM Hawaii Time, Sunday,
October 24, 1999, corresponding to 04:00 Monday morning, GMT.
The publicity addressed the whole world, however, and included a
chart to specify the times elsewhere. The actual meditation was
scheduled for a ten-minute period from 6:10 to 6:20 pm.
The time period for the GCP prediction was set for 6:00 to 6:30 (04:00
to 04:30, UTC, Monday, 25 October, 1999) using 10-minute blocking.
As the figure shows, there was a steady departure of the data from
expectation during this time period, with contributions from eggs all
around the world. The associated probability is 0.012 for the event,
which contrasts very strongly with similar data from a control period 24 hours
earlier.
