The suicide bombing in Grozny, Chechnya on 28 December, 2002, was yet
another in the lengthening series of horrifying incidents that
suggest that a terrible contagious disease has spread around the world.
Somehow, we have allowed an idea to take root that suicide bombings
aimed at killing and maiming civilians are acceptable. This one was
apparently the work of the Chechnyan separatists, who loaded trucks with
thousands of pounds of explosives, and rammed them through the security
around the pro-Russian government building at about 2:30 in the
afternoon.
There were about 200 people working there, and some 55 of them were
killed and most of the rest badly hurt.
The standard prediction was set for three hours from 11:30 to
14:30 (Grozny is three hours earlier than GMT).
The result is a non-significant positive trend, with Chisquare of 10876
on 10800 degrees of freedom and p = 0.301.
