The recording sites for the Global Consciousness Project are referred to as "eggs" and comprise a hardware REG or RNG attached to a computer running custom software. They are shown in the Google map above. This display of the egghost sites was created by Fernando Lucas Rodriguez, and replaces the previous version with more detail and flexibility. We would like the GCP network to cover the globe fairly homogeneously but the actual distribution depends on Internet infrastructure and on having friends and colleagues around the world willing to host a site. The project will continue indefinitely, so those interested in participating must able to make a long-term commitment. Hosting an egg requires running a program or process on a multi-tasking system such as Linux or Windows NT, 2000, or XP. The computer must run continuously, and it must have an Internet connection, preferably continuous. Computer clock are synchronized to the correct time by an automatic process to keep the data from all eggs properly time-stamped. The data are collected and stored locally on the egg-host computer. During times when the internet connection is up, the data are transmitted automatically to a central server (noosphere.princeton.edu) where they are archived. The central server also is host to the GCP website and a variety of analysis programs, as well as a web-based data access form. You may wish to look at more details of the specific requirements for hosting, and download the custom Linux software or Windows software and instructions. If you would like to participate in this way, please contact Roger Nelson with a brief description of your circumstances, where you are, and how you come to be interested in hosting. Because we are approaching a limit on the network size, we are adding eggs primarily in locations outside the United States and Europe. Egg Host InformationThe following table shows all eggs in the order they came online, their unique ID number, the internet connection as ETH (continuous) or D&D (dial and drop), the type of REG device, the egg hosts, the egg's location, latitude and longitude, and its installation date. Contact information is given for some of the hosts in the NetStatus table. |
